Jim Sheldon-Dean is the founder and director of compliance services at Lewis Creek Systems, LLC, a Vermont-based consulting firm founded in 1982, providing information privacy and security regulatory compliance services to a wide variety of healthcare entities. He is a frequent speaker regarding HIPAA, including speaking engagements at numerous regional and national healthcare association conferences and conventions and the annual NIST/OCR HIPAA Security Conference. Sheldon-Dean has more than two decades of experience specializing in HIPAA compliance, four decades of experience in policy analysis and implementation, business process analysis, information systems, and software development, and eight years of experience doing hands-on medical work as a Vermont-certified volunteer emergency medical technician.
Sheldon-Dean received his B.S. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Vermont and his master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Susan Strauss RN Ed.D is a national and international speaker, trainer, and consultant on workplace and healthcare violence and a recognized expert on workplace and school harassment and bullying. She is an RN and has been the Director of Quality Improvement. She recently conducted a 3-day conference on violence in healthcare in Beirut Lebanon. She has assisted organizations in planning workplace violence programming. She conducts harassment and bullying investigations and functions as an expert witness in harassment and bullying lawsuits. Her clients are from business, education, healthcare, law, and government organizations from both the public and private sectors.
Dr. Strauss has conducted research examining physician misconduct in the OR, and written over 30 books, book chapters, and journal articles on harassment, bullying, and related topics. She has been featured on 20/20, CBS Evening News, and other national and international television and radio programs as well as interviewed for newspaper and journal articles such as Harvard Education Newsletter, Lawyers Weekly, and Times of London.
Susan has a doctorate in organizational leadership. She is a registered nurse and has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and counseling, a master’s degree in community health, and a professional certificate in training and development.
William Mack Copeland, MS, JD, Ph.D., LFACHE, practices health care law in Cincinnati at the firm of Copeland Law, LLC. He is also president of Executive & Managerial Development Group, a consulting entity providing compliance and other fraud and abuse-related services. A graduate of Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law, Bill is a frequent author and speaker on health law topics. Copeland is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, American, Ohio, and Cincinnati Bar Associations and is a life fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. A former hospital chief executive officer, he was awarded the American College of Health Care Executives Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award in 2007.
